Ms. Janet Sump - Director of Music Ministry
Janet Sump graduated from UTC with a B.S. degree in Music Education. After graduating from UTC, Ms. Sump continued her music studies at Converse College and received a Master of Music Degree.
Ms. Sump has studied voice with Doris Doe and has continued to study with John Ramsaur at Shorter College. She taught choral music at Hixson Junior High School and in 1980 took a teaching position with Cadek Conservatory of Music. In 1983, she became a Faculty Associate with Cadek and UTC. At Cadek, she teaches piano, violin and theory. She is the Theory Coordinator and Director of the Kids ën Keyboard Program. At UTC, she teaches class piano.
Since 1979, Ms. Sump has been the Director of Music at New Hope Presbyterian Church where she directs the Adult, Handbell and Youth Choirs. She is a certified member of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.
Mrs. Mary S. Bond - Administrative Assistant
Mary Bond and her husband, Richard, both natives of Roanoke, Virginia, moved to the Chattanooga area in 1978. Mary was employed by a Chattanooga law firm for many years before joining the New Hope Presbyterian staff as Church Secretary in 1999. Never one to "sit idle", she assumed the added responsiblity of accounts payable in 2002 and states her work at the church is very rewarding. In addition, Mary states she appreciates the members who stop by the church office to visit and that each one of them is special to her.
Mary and Richard have a son named Timothy and a daughter named Kimberly, who both reside with their families in the Chattanooga area. They also have four grandchildren, Kendra, Ricky, Tori and Nicholas, who keep them "on their toes and very busy".
Mrs. Elsilynn Knisley-Barber - Organist
Elsilynn Knisley-Barber joined the staff as Organist at New Hope Presbyterian Church in 2004. In addition to her position at New Hope, she also teaches music at two of our local schools, Ooltewah Elementary and Wallace A. Smith Elementary.
Mrs. Knisley-Barber received degrees from Carson-Newman College and Ithaca College and holds the Service Playing and Colleague certificates from the American Guild of Organists.
She is married to Reverend Mark Barber.
Mrs. Veronica Reel - Nursery Coordinator
Mrs. Veronica Reel joined the New Hope Presbyterian Church staff in 2007. In addition to her position at New Hope, she recently completed the paralegal program at Chattanooga State.
Veronica has been married for three years to Scott Reel and has a white boxer mix dog named Shelby. In addition, Mrs. Reel has 2 nieces, Oliva who is 8 years old and Atena who is 3 months old and one nephew, Luke, who is 3 years old.
