Keith Jones, a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA, has been the pastor of New Hope since January, 2008. Keith is a lifelong Presbyterian; he grew up in Northern Kentucky, went to college at Case Western Reserve University and at the University of Manchester, England, before realizing that February was much nicer in places where snow is a surprise, not a continual reminder of how cold it is outside. He and his wife, Rachel, reside in Ooltewah. She works as an accountant with the TVA.

If you were stranded on a desert island with three books, what would they be?
The Bible would be first. After that, Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo, a favorite of mine for which I have yet to find an equal in the adventure category. My third choice is cheating a bit, but the complete collection of Calvin & Hobbes, because everyone stranded on an island could use a laugh.

How did you and Rachel meet?
We went to high school ten minutes away from each other in Northern Kentucky. After four long years I worked up the nerve to ask her out, and our first date was either a Cincinnati Reds baseball game or a University of Kentucky football game, depending on whose version you believe. Neither team was in any danger of making the game more memorable than the date.

What’s your favorite Bible verse?
John 3:30: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” It’s short, simple and sums up what should be our goal—to continue to seek ways to glorify God and humble ourselves.

What are some of your hobbies?
Rachel and I both love to be outdoors, whether hiking or cycling. An evening with a good book (or at least a funny book) is a pretty nice night. We spend a lot of time with our cats, Rijo and Larkin, trying to keep them from destroying our house.

Christians are people of dreams. Name your dream for New Hope.
I dream that New Hope is a place where we are continually growing in our efforts to be faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray that the Holy Spirit guides our hearts and our minds so that all we do is offered to God in worship. I love to see us active in the community, so that when people think of New Hope they think of a place where the radical love of Jesus Christ is lived out, offering all we have to God and to neighbor.
